Dimapur, June 12 (MExN): Along with the rest of the world, Community Educational Centre Society (CECS) observed World Day Against Child Labour in Dimapur supported by Wipro Cares under the ILO theme for 2019 “Children shouldn’t work in fields, but on Dreams.”
In a press release today, CECS stated that the event was launched with a poster campaign and awareness in the morning.
It included around 50 marginalized children from various Informal Education for Marginalized Children (IEMC) Centres implemented by CECS along with the Educational Volunteers and CECS staffs.
The poster campaign was conducted at Dimapur Taxi Stand, Railway Station, Auto Stand, Eros Lane and Golaghat Road.
Children along with staffs, while pasting the posters also sensitized the general public on the evils of child labour, joint effort to prevent any form of child labour and to protect children from all forms of exploitation.
The second part of the programme was held at Community Education Centre (CEC) School, Grace Colony Nagarjan, which was graced by Sharon Longchari, ADC Dimapur.
Subonenba Longkumer, Director CECS delivered the key note address, where he highlighted on how CECS has been pioneering on the issue of child labour since 2005 and the impact that these programmes had created at different levels over the years.
He shared that CECS through its formal and non-formal educational programmes are reaching out to over 2000 children every day and through IEMC programme, a total of 893 children were mainstreamed into formal education in a period of 4 years.
ADC Dimapur Longchari, in her speech stressed that every child should enjoy their childhood and should have the freedom to dream and build a better and brighter future.
She talked on the prevailing scenario of child labour in Naga society and the state as a whole, where despite huge changes and developments, the status of child labour has not changed and it continues to exist.
She acknowledged CECS for its hard work and pioneering the issue of child labour over the years and providing children the opportunity and privilege for a better life, and further urged every individual to collectively work together in eliminating child labour from the society.
The ADC also handed over clothes to the teachers of IEMC centers, donated as part of CSR activity by Future Group/Big Bazaar/SKC Foundation Mumbai which was distributed to around 700 children from various IEMC centres.
The programme was highlighted by choreography, action songs, skit and special numbers by children from various IEMC centers. Toshi Aier, Programme Officer CECS acknowledged and expressed gratitude towards all the participants and staff for their support and contribution in making the event successful.
