CEDOK holds All Nagaland Catholic Schools Athletic Meet

CHÜMOUKEDIMA, OCTOBER12 (MExN): The Commission for Education Diocese of Kohima (CEDOK) organised the All Nagaland Catholic Schools Inter-School Athletic Meet and CEDOK Teachers Award 2025 on October 10 at St Joseph Hr Sec. School, Chümoukedima.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Most Rev Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, as the Special Guest, while Dr. Johnny Ruangmei, Joint Executive Officer, NSDMA, and Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS, Principal Director, School Education, Nagaland, attended as Special Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.

Over 700 students from 33 Catholic schools across Nagaland participated in the day-long athletic meet, competing in track and field events including 100m, 200m, 400m races, relay, sack race, obstacle race, long jump, high jump, shot put, arm wrestling, and bamboo climbing. The events were conducted simultaneously at various locations on the school campus, with assistance from Dimapur Athletics, Naga Arm Benders, NEISSR postgraduates, and members of the host school community.

The meet commenced with prayers and a welcome address by Rev Dr George Rino, Principal of St Joseph Hr Sec School, and the oath administered by Rev Fr Renthungo N. Odyuo, joint Secretary of CEDOK. Bishop Thoppil encouraged students to pursue excellence with discipline, unity, and faith before declaring the meet open.

At the valedictory function, Shashank Pratap Singh appreciated CEDOK’s efforts in fostering holistic education, while Dr Johnny Ruangmei urged young athletes to celebrate sportsmanship, camaraderie, and perseverance. The CEDOK Teachers Award 2025 was presented to Sarita Gurung (St John Hr Sec School, Tuensang), Adole Rhetso (St Joseph Hr Sec School, Viswema),. Ethel (Holy Child School, Burma Camp), Temjenyangla (Assisi Hr Sec School, Khermahal), Khriezomenuo (St Andrew School, Jotsoma), and Asosü Dominic Pfokreni (St. Mary Cathedral Hr Sec School, Kohima) in recognition of their contribution to education.

Holy Cross Hr Sec School, Dimapur, and St Andrew School, Thenyizumi emerged as overall champions of the meet. Certificates, medals, and mementos were distributed to winners, while all participants received certificates of participation. The event concluded with a fellowship meal for attendees.
