Centre approves 19 Khelo India Centres in Nagaland

Kohima, October 12 (MExN): The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has approved the setting up of the 19 Khelo India Centres in the Nagaland. The DIPR informed that the centres (See tables) were sanctioned in pursuance to a proposal submitted by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland. 

In addition, the state has one Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) at IG Stadium which has three priority disciplines— Boxing, Wrestling and Archery.

The setting up of the KISCE & KIC is on the verge of completion and it will be totally functional from November 2021, although four KICs (private organization) and KISCE (IGS) are already functioning. 

Y&RS on Grant-in-Aid eligibility
The DIPR added that the Department of Youth Resources & Sports (YR&S) has informed that under the Department, there are 24 Associations and 12 District Sports Councils, which are eligible for getting Grant-in-Aid. All Olympic/ASIAN Games disciplines as approved by the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) come within this category. “Therefore, any other sports/games which (which go National and International)  wish to be recognized/considered for financial assistance/grants under the Government of Nagaland will be considered subject to the condition that the particular sports is a recognized Sports by the Indian Olympic Association, and has an exemplary record of sound activities, a recognized Association with valid Byelaws and Constitutions, registered under the Registrar of Societies of Nagaland under Home Department and approved by the NOA in Nagaland.”
