Chakhesang community celebrates Sükrünye with wrestling meet

Diezephe, January 16 (MExN): The Chakhesang Community Diezephe (CCD) organised the Sükrünye Festival along with a Wrestling Meet with traditional fervour at Diezephe village on January 15.

The programme, which began at 10 am, was graced by Er Vezota Khusoh, team member, Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA), Government of Nagaland, as the honoured guest. The event was compered by Vekhosato Dozo and Ruyivolȕ Nyekha.

The celebration commenced with an invocation prayer by Poseruh Lohe, Pastor, AGCD, seeking God’s guidance and blessings. This was followed by a welcome address by Mhaseo Dozo, chairman, CCD, who highlighted the cultural and spiritual significance of the Sükrünye Festival as a time of thanksgiving, unity and renewal within the Chakhesang community.

A moment of reverence was observed when Yekronu Lupu, the oldest member of CCD, pronounced the Act of Blessing, symbolising respect for elders and continuity of tradition.

The cultural segment featured folk songs presented by Nukudulȕ Medeo and Kese Tsory, adding colour and cultural richness to the celebration.

The Wrestling Meet, one of the major attractions of the event, was held in two categories — Senior Category (open) and Under-15 Junior Category (open) — and witnessed keen participation and enthusiastic spectatorship. In the Senior Category, Rukubilhü Nyekha secured the first position, followed by Vesata Medeo in second place and Hukhoneyi Sazo in third place.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Vezoto Chȕzho, vice-president, CCD, and a closing prayer offered by Leluthi Tsory, Pastor, Chakhesang Baptist Church Diezephe. The celebrations ended with the traditional Sükrünye Feast, fostering fellowship and communal harmony among the participants.
