Changki & Changpang commemorates Christian advent

Dimapur, December 7 (MExN): The Baptist churches of Changki village in Mokokchung and Changpang village in Wokha commemorates the arrival of Christianity in the latter, through Changki missionaries. A joint fellowship was held November 26-27 recently to mark the occasion, the pastors of the two churches informed in a note today.
According to the note appended b Rev. S Emna Tzudir and Machan Odyuo, a ‘Gospel team’ from Changki village led by late Nikensosang came to Changpang village – Nagaland’s richest crude oil area – in 1910 and spread the Gospel, the message of Jesus Christ. Three families converted to Christianity and gradually more joined, leading to the establishment of Changpang Village Baptist Church in 1911, the pastor said. Changpang’s church celebrated its golden jubilee in 1961 and platinum jubilee in 1986, the pastors said.
“This year by the guidance of the Almighty, the Changpang Village Baptist church has been preparing for celebrating the significant centennial jubilee (100 years) which will commence from December 27 to 28 of this year (2011). Since the Word of God was first preached in Changpang village by a Gospel team from Changki Baptist church and subsequently Christianity was embraced by the villagers of Changpang,” the note said.
During the November joint fellowship in Changki, prayers seeking forgiveness was also held as well as for the success of Changpang’s Baptist church’s centennial jubilee, the church leaders informed in their note.
