CHENNAI, DECEMBER 4 (MExN): Nagaland and Assam Statehood Days were jointly celebrated at Raj Bhavan, Chennai, in the spirit of Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat, with participation from the residents of both states residing in Tamil Nadu on December 2.
RN Ravi, Governor of Tamil Nadu as the chief guest witnessed the dance performances of Mungyangta (Nagaland) and Bardoishikla (Assam). The Governor was welcomed by Wapangtoshi, President of North East India Welfare Association Chennai, and Deben Daloi, President of Assam Association Chennai.
Speaking on the occasion, RN Ravi urged the students from both states studying in Chennai to acquire at least functional knowledge of the Tamil language. He shared the connection between the people of Nagaland and Assam with Tamil Nadu regarding hospitality. The Governor recalled a narrative from a 102-year-old man from Nagaland, who shared how the Nagas and Assamese have been good neighbors for generations, even exchanging their respective products during the barter system, and sometimes keeping their belongings safely with their Assamese friends until they returned.
The Raj Bhavan Tamil Nadu partnered with University of Guwahati to conduct a diploma course in Tamil language, aimed at facilitating the learning of Tamil for people from the northeast who come to Tamil Nadu, said Ravi mentioned. On this occasion, Keviletuo Yano Richard from Nagaland and Gautam Deori from Assam were felicitated by the Governor for their contributions to their respective communities in Chennai for over a decade.
