DIMAPUR, JULY 9 (MExN): An interactive meeting between delegates of Kunming Medical University China and students along with their parents was conducted at Niathu Resort, Dimapur on Friday evening. Organized by the Chinese Institute of Language & Arts and China Study Centre Dimapur, it was a unique opportunity for students and their parents to understand the system of education of a Chinese medical university.
“Many students and parents are not very clear on how to apply for a medical university and they want to know if the university is recognized by Government of India. This meeting is a small step on our behalf to clear some of these doubts,” said Dr. John Murry, Patron of Chinese Institute Dimapur, who was the coordinator of the meeting. The delegation from Kunming Medical University comprised of Liu Hong, Director, Division of International Exchange & Cooperation, Sun Jun, Dean of Basic Medical School, Xu Xinagfeng, International Program officer along with Gautam Mitra from The School of Chinese Language Kolkata.
During the Two and a Half hour long meeting various topics were discussed. These included living conditions for students in Yunnan China, freedom to practice own religion, facilities for students, academic standard of the university, scholarships for students, MCI rules and regulations, how to apply to the university and so on.
Jenny Haining Murry, Director of Chinese Institute of Language and Arts Dimapur said “We are conducting special Chinese language classes for students interested in applying to the university. Even though the MBBS course is conducted in English, students need to know some Chinese language to live their day to day life in China”
Kunming Medical University has authorized the Chinese Institute of Language and Arts Dimapur to recruit eligible students to the university. This will help students to get first hand information about the university by visiting the Institute and it will also be easy for students to apply to the university. To help students fasten their application procedure, the university has decided to accept applications of eligible students who are still applying for their passports. Parliamentary Secretary for CAWD, Torechu was also one of the parents listening attentively to the discussions. Presenting Naga shawls to the delegation, he appreciated the Dimapur Chinese Institute’s initiative for organizing a very informative seminar and meeting.
Later in the evening, at a dinner hosted at Dr. John Murry’s residence, Emilo Patton, Naga idol contestant entertained the guests with her songs. The visiting delegation also sang some melodious Chinese tunes.
