Chisholimi Baptist Akukuhou celebrated its Sunday School Golden Jubilee on December 20 and 21 under the theme “Itimi Ye Achiku” at Chisholimi village, under Pughoboto sub-division, Zunheboto district.

The speakers for the two-day event were Shetoli Y Assumi, Secretary, Department of Children Ministry, Sümi Aphuyemi Baptist Akukuhou Kuqhakulu (SABAK), and Jekivi Futhena, Pastor of Chisholimi Baptist Akukuhou.

Addressing the congregation, Shetoli Y Assumi urged children to love Sunday school and remain committed so that they may complete their learning and graduate well. Speaking on the theme “Itimi Ye Achiku”, loosely translated as “Children are like a precious necklace”, she drew from Psalm 127:3, which teaches that children are a heritage from the Lord. She explained that children are like a precious necklace passed down from generation to generation. As an heirloom entrusted by God, they must be carefully nurtured, protected and guided in the ways of the Lord.

She emphasised that while many people hurry to become wealthy, success without God is meaningless. True heritage, she said, comes from God in the form of children. She illustrated this by describing ‘Achiku’ in Sümi language as an heirloom necklace and likening God’s heritage to arrows that protect a warrior from trouble.

Assumi stressed the responsibility of parents to teach children the ways of God and life, comparing this process to how a soldier carefully cleans and sharpens his weapon. She challenged parents to reflect on the effort they invest in building their children’s spiritual lives, just as they do in enhancing their outward appearance.

Encouraging parents not to give up in training their children, she shared a personal testimony, recalling how her father often reminded her that children are a heritage from the Lord. She acknowledged that her parents’ investment of time, resources and prayers shaped who she is today and affirmed that such investment is never a waste.

In conclusion, she urged parents and the church to invest more in the spiritual growth of children. The speaker called on everyone, particularly during the jubilee season, to take a renewed step forward with commitment and determination and not to give up in nurturing the next generation.

On the final day of the jubilee programme, Jekivi Futhena, Pastor of Chisholimi Baptist Akukuhou, delivered his message on the theme “Aghokulu Itimi (Obedient Children)”. He urged children to embrace obedience, underscoring that it brings blessings, while strengthening one’s spiritual life.

He encouraged children to walk the right path by obeying their parents and elders, stressing that obedience is the key that opens the door to progress. He described obedience as the foundation of success and noted that it is more powerful than tens of thousands of words.

Citing Colossians 3:20, Pastor Futhena reminded the congregation that obedience sets children apart and leads to a God-honouring life. He urged children to make a conscious effort to practise obedience in their daily lives, ‘which is well pleasing to the Lord.’
