My wife and kids had gone to do some few unfinished shopping on Sunday 21/12/2025 after attending church service, since they were planning to leave the same evening for granny’s place to spending the Christmas holiday.
They had parked the car in the New market area (GS road, around Durga Mandir vicinity), and by shopping around they did make some few trips back and forth to the car to load the purchased things.
On one occasion, maybe one of my kid delinquently forgot to lock the car, and then the unprecedented thing happened. The car’s bass tube, some newly bought clothes, my son’s shoes and some few other things were stolen from the car.
Well, at first they didn’t notice the missing things and since my wife is not much known for listening to car music, didn’t notice the missing bass tube too. After they came back from shopping, I needed to go someplace fast, and when I realised that there was no sound from the bass tube, I thought some wires had snapped, but when I opened the car trunk, it was gone and then when asked around we found that few other things were also stolen.
I don’t deny the carelessness of my folks, and I even ran my mouth on them for that too, but what is so frustrating is we live in a place where we cannot let our guards down even for a second. Again, I ain’t justifying my folk’s delinquent negligence, but come on, we are all human being, and tends to become distracted, and complacent sometimes.
Nevertheless, if I perhaps request the shopkeepers around to checking their CCTV footages, maybe we could potentially flush out the culprits. However considering the spirit of Christmas, I am letting it go this time, but here’s the take, regardless.
1. To The Perpetrators: Your little heist may make you think you are smart and bold, but if you don’t stop immediately with these little misadventures of yours, you are bound to be caught one day or the other and then you won’t be feeling so smart as you are now.
2. To The Parking Tax Collectors: Please don’t only think of how many parking tax you can collect, but kindly also look out for suspecting characters snooping around parked cars. By doing so, you may be able to avert few unwanted situations, and also put some smiles in other people’s lips. Remember, unseen blessings is a two way street
3. To Shoppers: Please learn from our mistake and always ensure and double check that your cars are always locked, and also stay alert at all times. You never know when these unscrupulous elements may come sniffing around. Also, keep in mind that not all people you meet around markets are shoppers. Some could be vultures, hyenas, and predators just hanging around to strike and pounce as soon as they detect slight mistakes, ever ready to capitalise on your small errors and dereliction.
Lastly, considering news outlets doing the rounds through social and electronic medias regarding pick pockets, shop lifting mugging etc, it is sad that Dimapur is becoming a place where the phrase “Daylight Robbery” is not just a rhetoric or a figure of speech, but it literally and exactly means Daylight Robbery, where in future even angels may fear to tread.
