Christmas cards with HIV and AIDs message to be launched soon

Kohima | August 14 : Christmas cards with special messages on HIV and AIDS will hit the market soon in Nagaland. This is part of the Multi Media Campaign (MMC) - Red Ribbon Superstar Campaign to spread awareness on HIV and AIDS in Nagaland.
Commissioner  & Secretary for Health & Family Welfare, Menukhol John said the printing of Christmas card with HIV and AIDS message will be designed with an ethnic touch and it will hit the market by November. He said the Spastic Society of Nagaland and Youthnet will bring out this special Christmas card with HIV and AIDS message and the sale proceed will go to the networks and inmates.
The timeline for MMC is from August 18 to January 2012, involving awareness through inter personal communication, sports, music and festivals, with a view of capitalizing on the popularity of local entertainment avenues targeting the youth in the age group of 18 to 30 years with the theme “Awareness, Compassion, Education and Support” for the issue of HIV and AIDS in the state.
It may be recalled that HIV prevalence rate in Nagaland has come down to 0.78% since December 2010 from that of 1.27% till October 2010. As per the report of AIDS case surveillance since 1994-June 2011, 3933 AIDS case was reported in which 2141 belong to male and 1792 female. AIDS related death is 552, out of which 280 are male, 220 female and 52 children.
Heterosexual with 87% topped the route of HIV transmission (2010-11) in Nagaland, followed by PPTCT 5%, infected N/S- 4%, homosexual 2%, not specified 2 % and through blood 0%. Age distribution of HIV+ case 2006-11 is as follows; 25- 49 years- 74%, 15-24 years- 16%, 14 years- 7%, 50 years- 3% and not specified- 0%.
