Kohima, December 27 (MExN): St. Francis de Sales (SFS) parish celebrated Christmas as faithful flocked to the capacity church on Tuesday morning in Kohima.
Delivering his Christmas homily during the English Mass, Fr. Peter Pithungo, asst parish priest of SFS said Christmas is a great feast of God where He became flesh for mankind on the day.
The celebrant assured saying that Christmas has a message of hope for such broken people because Saviour was born to save mankind.
It was not by chance that the “Son of God” decided to be born in a manger, he explained. “It is by His own choice, decision and freedom that He has decided to be born in a stinking, dirty and shameful place," he stated. He related “stinking manger to our own mess” but said God is ever ready to come to our life. The priest said we celebrate Christmas because Saviour has come to recreate and restore us.
The Holy Mass was celebrated at the parish compound where Christmas songs were led by Kid's Choir; Cecilia Kath conducted the service; Albina Tigga and Anthony Dukru read the Scripture; Prayer of the Faithful by Denis Kamei.
Meanwhile, Rev. Fr. Richard Fernandes, parish priest of SFS presided over the early morning eucharistic service. Fr.Richard also celebrated Angami Mass later in the parish which took place simultaneously with the English Mass.
