Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio on January 14 declared Chungtia Village under Mokokchung district as a tourist destination, following a request from the Chungtia Village Council and the Chungtia Students’ Union. The declaration was made during the 70th General Conference of the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) held at Chungtia Village. He also assured that the government would initiate measures to develop and promote Chungtia as a tourist destination.

The CM noted that the presence of several natural and cultural attractions, including Tüvlong, Yimrongdong, and a perennial pond located atop a mountain, qualifies Chungtia as a significant tourist destination.

Tüvlong is an ancestral and sacred site situated at the highest peak of the village and is regarded as the original settlement site of Chungtia. It is also a natural cliff that historically served as a defensive barrier.

Yimrongdong is a sacred tree associated with the Yimrong ceremony, which marked communal victory following warfare during the headhunting era. Rituals were traditionally centred around Yimrongdong, and the site is now preserved as an important symbol of the village’s historical and cultural identity.

The Arijuma Tzütu is a sacred perennial pond located on a mountain peak and was traditionally used as a site for rain prayers, where the community would gather during periods of drought. Along with the mentioned sites there are also other key heritage site like the Yimpang Sungkum, Sungkum Api and Tingden (Log drum) etc.

Chungtia Village has also proposed the introduction of adventure tourism and has already earmarked locations for activities such as paragliding with an estimated flight distance of 4.3 km, rock climbing over a height of 160 metres, a Tüvlong viewpoint offering a 360-degree view of the village which is already constructed, and cliff-side footpaths stretching approximately 1,000 metres.
