Changtongya, April 25 (MExN): The Changtongya Students' Union (CKT) conducted a surprise checking and seized expired goods and food items from 17 shops in Changtongya Town on April 25.

During the inspection, CKT discovered that many expired food items were being sold to unsuspecting and unaware members of the public.

The seized items being taken to the dumping site.

Accordingly, the union members seized the goods and food items and after affirming the seizure with the Sub-Divisional Officer (C) Changtongya, C Wangan, were destroyed at the Town’s wasted dumping site.

CKT Arensashi, meanwhile, maintained that the consumption of expired food items has severe health implications, especially for children, and urged for public vigilance.

With public cooperation, CKT will remain vigilant to guard against such practices in the future, he assured.

Additionally, CKT informed that while the Indian Penal Code Section 273 and the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954 Section 7 prohibit the trade of expired goods and food items, many traders still engage in such practices.
Hence, CKT called for awareness and guarding against such practices.
