Clarification on harassments on NH 39

This is to clarify on the above write up appearing in a local daily of 26.4. 2006 and other local dailies of Nagaland by Khriesazo Huire, President and Zokho S.Venuh Gen. Secretary Phek Collegiate Forum. On the unfortunate accident of injuring a boy of about 8 years at Makhan Khuman on 11.4.2006 at around 8:30 am and not 12.4.2006 as quoted in the papers.

To make a long story short, after seriously injuring and blood oozing out from the head of the boy, the occupants of the Gypsy namely, Kudeyi Huire and party made a casual stop and fled the scene but the party was halted by L. Kaihrii at Mao Gate and thereafter, they proceeded to Makhan Khuman village (along the N.H 39) with the injured party. On admission of guilt a sum of Rupees ten thousand (Rs. 10,000/-) only was realeased from Kudeyi Huire and party for emergency medical treatment and in case further money was required Mr. Kudeyi had informed to collect the required cash from Mr. A. Athili at Kohima and there and there it was agreed upon, that the final matter was to be settled on the 18.4.2006 at Makhan Khuman village.

On the appointed date Mr. N. Ashuli and Mr. P. Sani of Mao Union Kohima came without Kudeyi and party, whose names were never mentioned in the write up for reasons best known to the Phek Collegiate Forum. This was a humiliation of sort, as it have to be amicably settled in the presence of both the parties.

To the utmost surprise, the write up under question had given shock to the village, village elders of the Makhan Khuman. As from our heart of heart and in the name of God we have nothing to avenge or impose penalization but for an amicable settlement.

What is all written in the press release are false and nothing of : do you want to eat bullet etc. spoken nor they were taken to the jungle but to the church compound along the N.H 39 about 100 ft from the 22 A. R check post and the A.R personnel were the eye witnesses.

To the best of our knowledge and intuition the Gypsy occupants’ i.e, Kudeyi and party apprehend that, heavy fine and other penalties may be imposed on them, going through the newspaper item. Nothing of the sort.

If we are savage and extract money, we should have beaten them blue and black as happened in such accidents and extract or claim unprecedented money on the day of the incident when they were in our mercy. Therefore, the Phek Collegiate Forum had given a bad picture on an unwarranted issue.
