CM inaugurates irrigation project

Mokokchung, February 24 (MExN): A programme for commissioning & handing over of Tsutsung Minor Irrigation Project at Longsa village was held at the project site (Moalenden) on February 24 with Chief Minister Nagaland Neiphiu Rio as the chief guest.
The Tsutsung Minor Irrigation Project, as per a handout from the Irrigation & Flood Control Department, disclosed that the project has been completed at an estimated cost of Rs 3.86 crore. The project commenced in April 2009. This project is envisaged to irrigate 270 hactres of area; at present it can irrigate 210 hactres of land.
It may be noted here that Tsutsung River is located in the valley of Longsa village. This area holds great potentials for rice cultivation and also other crops. With this irrigation project fully commissioned, it is expected that the paddy fields and other cultivable areas will be able to produce crops in a more productive way.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said since Nagaland does have enough cultivable land, government would identify areas that is cultivable and would invest to promote so as to uplift and benefit the people. Speaking about the importance of   water management, Rio asked the people to preserve forest so that we can have more water for cultivation. Rio also mentioned his sincere gratitude to the Officers and staff of the department of Irrigation & Flood Control led by Parliamentary secretary Irrigation & Flood Control (IFCD) Y. Patton for their dedication and selfless effort in completing the project. He also lauded the Longsa villager for their cooperation and support in making the project a real success.
Short speeches were delivered by parliamentary Secretary Irrigation & Flood control (IFCD) Y. Patton, Chairman Longsa village council while briefing on technical report was made by Chief Engineer, Er. Mezekrol (IFCD) while Executive Engineer (IFCD) Er. Hotovi Sema said the vote of thanks. A number of Govt. officials lead by Deputy Commissioner and SP Mokokchung attended the function. The programme was chaired by Joint Secretary to the Government of Nagaland (IFCD) T. Nungsang Ao.
Y Patton Parliamentary Secretary for Irrigation & Flood Control, while speaking at the function, highly appreciated the Longsa villagers for their cooperation while constructing the Tsutsung Minor Irrigation Project. Pointing out that the project now belongs to the villagers Patton urged the villagers and farmers to use the irrigation facility as their own. He also thanked the Chief Minister for generously granting the funds for the construction of the minor irrigation project.
