WOKHA, OCTOBER 2 (MExN): The Chief Medical Officer’s Office, Wokha, observed the International Day of Older Persons on Wednesday under the theme “Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being, Our Rights” at the CMO Conference Hall.
Dr Aseno Rhetso, District Programme Officer (NCD), highlighted the high prevalence of hypertension and diabetes among the elderly, urging strict adherence to medication to prevent serious health risks. She informed that the District National Programme for the Health Care of the Elderly would conduct screenings and promote awareness across health centres in Wokha during the month-long celebration.
CMO Wokha, Dr Thungchanbemo Ezung, called upon health workers and community leaders to mobilize local participation in elderly care initiatives. He emphasized sensitizing offices, churches, and local bodies to strengthen the delivery of elderly health services.
Dr Ezung formally launched the International Day of Older Persons at the Urban Primary Health Centre, Wokha, in the presence of Dr Mhonchan N. Kithan, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Wokha, programme officers, NHM staff, and other participants. The event was chaired by Mhonbeni Ezung, District Programme Manager (NHM), and concluded with a vote of thanks by Micheal Murry, Senior Health Educator, NLEP.
