CNCCI reminds of single-use plastics ban

Dimapur, May 29 (MExN): The Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) CNCCI has directed all business establishments across the State, where single-use plastic ban has not been implemented, to “use a minimalistic approach in using plastic carry bags and switch to paper and jute bags.”

A press release from CNCCI Chairperson, Dr. Khekugha Muru, also appealed consumers to “support the cause and follow certain good practices such as carrying shopping bags while going for shopping and keeping the shopping bags handy in a vehicle to avoid useage of plastic bags.”

Such small efforts, the CNCCI, reiterated, could “help in a great way towards plastic free Nagaland.”

The body also took time to appreciate the initiatives of its confederating chambers of commerce and industry of Phek, Kiphire, Wokha, Mon and Longleng for taking the fight against single-use plastic as a major stakeholder.

“The success story of Phek in their fight against doing away with single use plastic should be emulated by all the stakeholders,” stated the CNCCI Chairperson while urging the remaining confederating units to “start generating awareness in their respective districts and set a target in a time bound manner to do away with single-use plastic bags, thermocol plates and cups.”

Nagaland, it stated, is “blessed with rich flora and fauna, beautiful mountains, rivers and lakes, however, the reckless use and dumping of a plastic bags and thermocol plates and cups have slowly but surely has started showing negative adverse effects on our environment.”

“The mindless use of plastic has also resulted in clogged drainages, burning of plastics has aggravated air pollution in towns and cities resulting in a health hazard,” the CNCCI lamented.
