Anoop Khinchi, Commissioner & Secretary of Health & Family Welfare, said that collective efforts, cutting across all sectors, is key to achieving the UNAIDS goal. Khinchi, who is also the Chairman of the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS), made the comment while inaugurating the NSACS stall at Kisama, Kohima, as part of World AIDS Day commemorations on December 1.
“In order to achieve the SDG Goal 3 Target 3.3 by 2030 and to ensure that HIV & AIDS ceases to be a public health problem, all the states in the country are working towards the UNAIDS 95:95:95 Initiative,” he said. The UNAIDS 95-95-95 Initiative aims to ensure that 95 percent of people living with HIV are diagnosed, on treatment, and virally suppressed by 2030.
He informed that, as of October 2025, Nagaland has achieved 88 percent for the 1st 95, 79 percent for the 2nd 95, and 98 percent for the 3rd 95, he said.
As far as Nagaland was concerned, the target is to achieve the ‘95s’ by 2026, alongwith the rest of the country. The target, however, can be reached only with the involvement of all stakeholders across all categories of age, gender, and government, private as well as across all religious beliefs, he added.
According to him, HIV does not discriminate, and neither should the community. “If we stand with empathy, act with knowledge, and commit with compassion, we can turn disruption into transformation,” he said.
He said that prevention, testing, treatment and support should reach every corner of society, especially the most vulnerable. He also challenged the gathering to take the pledge “not just to remember those lost, but to protect lives, support those living with HIV, and move toward an AIDS-free future.”
