Commissioners and committees for economic census constituted

Kohima, May 31 (DIPR): The Government has appointed the Chief Secretary, Nagaland as the Ex-Officio Chief Economic Census Commissioner of Nagaland and the Deputy Commissioners of all the Districts as Ex-Officio District Economic Census Commissioners and to re-constitute the State High Level Steering Committee under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary for Nagaland and the District Level Monitoring Committees of all the Districts under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioners to guide and monitor the activities of the 6th Economic Census which will be conducted in the State along with the rest of the country from the month of October 2011 to March 2014.

State High Level Steering Committee constitutes of the following: Chief Secretary, Nagaland - Chairman with members including Additional Chief Secretary & Commissioner; Additional Chief Secretary & Development Commissioner, Nagaland; Commissioner & Secretary, School Education & SCERT; Commissioner & Secretary, Home; Commissioner & Secretary, IPR; Commissioner & Secretary, Industries & Commerce; Commissioner & Secretary, Rural Development; Secretary, Urban Development; Secretary, Economics & Statistics Department; Director, Rural Development Department; and Director, Economics & Statistics as Member Secretary. 

District Level Monitoring Committee constitutes of the following: Deputy Commissioner – Chairman; members including Superintendent of Police of the District; District Education Officer; All the Sub-Divisional Education Officers; District Public Relations Officer; General Manager, District Industries Centre; Project Director, Rural Development; District Urban Development Officer; and District Statistical Officer as Member Secretary.

Functions of the Committee are as follows:
1.    To evolve a suitable strategy and workable mechanism for the successful implementation of the Schemes.
2.    To review the achievements set out under the Scheme keeping pace with time schedule fixed by the Government of India.
3.    To ensure release of fund to the Department of Economics & Statistics facilitating thereby timely execution of the Scheme.
4.    To ensure that the creation of Temporary Posts proposed by the Government of India for their Scheme got through in time.
5.    To evolve a self contained and comprehensive plan with a view to conform to organisational linkages at the State as well as the District level.
6.    To review, scrutiny, coding, tabulation, computerisation and dissemination of Census results as per time schedule and to suggest measures to avoid delay.
7.    To ensure that the 6th Economic Census in both Rural, Urban civilian areas including military and Para-military Cantonments in entire State is covered.
The Committee will meet as many times as may be deemed necessary but not less than once in a quarter before the commencement of the actual field works from October 2011.
