‘Community Monitors has positive impact on census’

Dimapur, February 23 (MExN): A meeting of Census Department under the District Administration, State Observer, other officials and Community Monitors for Dimapur district was held in the chamber of DC Dimapur on February 23.
A press note stated that the meeting was chaired by DC Dimapur, Moangwati to review the ongoing progress on Census 2011 operation in the district. The meeting was held in presence of the state observer Bijoya P. Chetri, NCS (Secretary Horticulture) and other Census officials and Nodal officers including the seven (7) member Community Monitors for Dimapur District composed of five (5) Councilors from Naga Council and two (2) leaders (President and Vice President) from Naga Women Hoho Dimapur.
The DC chaired the meeting and briefed the members present mentioning of the current status and awareness meetings conducted by Community Monitors that has wide spread positive impact on the district for correct and factual completion of the Census 2011, Phase II. Community monitors are actively and physically supervising the exercise in order to ensure accurate maintenance of census by visiting maximum villages and sub-division headquarters, holding meetings with GBs, VDB leaders and Village chairmen, etc. The Community Monitors highlighted its thorough supervision of houses in several villages under various sub-divisions which have been recorded to assess whether enumerators are performing their assignments as per directive from Census Department. The meeting observed that Dimapur District is doing well except that some newly established colonies in some villages were detected with bogus entry, converting non-local names into local names, etc, believed to have been forced upon enumerators. However, on detection, the Administration and Community Monitors have immediately made necessary corrections after thorough verification during their visits.  
The State Observer has appreciated the involvement of Naga Council and Women Hoho as Community Monitors and commended the through nature of progress achieved so far. Further, DC Dimapur commented that the success achieved through involvement of Community Monitors in Nagaland will set a shining example to the whole country in achieving clean and correct presentation for the first time in the Country’s history of Census operation. It may be noted that Nagaland is the only State in the Country to constitute Community Monitors during the Census 2011 operations with a special emphasis to ensure complete transparency and accuracy in the Census operations.    
State Observer Chetri, after interacting with the members, has left for further personal verification in Niuland sector along with a member of the Community Monitor. Further, DC Dimapur has appealed to all citizens to cooperate with Census Department and Community Monitors for a smooth completion of the operation.
