Community, NEC team unite at Kiusam under ‘One Team, One Goal’ theme

Kiphire, April 12 (MExN): A community get-together and orientation programme for the North East Constructors (NEC) road construction team was held at Zinki river Camp, Kiusam, under the theme “One Team, One Goal.”

Hosted by St John Catholic Church, Kiusam, the programme brought together NEC managers, supervisors and workers along with local church members to foster solidarity, encouragement and spiritual support for the team engaged in building road connectivity in the Tikhir region.

The programme began with a welcome address by Teisovilie Rupreo, in-charge of NEC at the site, who expressed gratitude to the community for the gesture, noting that many workers are away from their homes and working under commitment.

The event featured a prayer dance by children of St John Church Kiusam, followed by games, a special musical presentation by Simon Anar and a group song by the church’s women members.

The gathering provided an opportunity for interaction between the construction team and local residents, including youth and elders, who came together to pray for the safety, morale and well-being of the workers.

Church members expressed their intent to encourage and support the NEC team while promoting mutual cooperation and respect across all levels.

Addressing the gathering, Rev Fr Thomas Toretkiu, priest in-charge, lauded the contribution of the NEC team in improving connectivity in the region.

He described the team’s work as a lasting contribution, stating that the road project would benefit generations in the Tikhir area.

Highlighting the importance of teamwork, he said effective coordination between leadership, supervisors and workers is essential for successful project execution.

He also acknowledged challenges in large-scale projects, including human limitations and workplace issues, and emphasised the need for trust, responsibility and accountability.

He urged workers to uphold values such as honesty, sincerity and responsibility, noting that these are essential not only in professional life but also at a personal level.

The programme was described by organisers as a significant moment of community engagement, with the church extending moral and spiritual support to the workforce.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri Akho, followed by a mass prayer for the safety and success of the project and all personnel involved. A community meal was served to attendees.
