‘Community participation key to dengue control’

Wokha, May 18 (MExN): National Dengue Day was observed at the conference hall, Chief Medical Officer’s office, Wokha under the theme “Community participation Dengue Control: Check, Clean and Cover,” on May 16.  

The event, organised by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), aimed to strengthen preventive actions before the monsoon and encourage public participation in controlling dengue transmission, stated a press release received here. 

Chief Medical Officer, Wokha, Dr Thungchangbemo Ezung briefed on the significance of dengue day and reflected on the rise of the dengue disease in the district. He also encouraged the staffs to conduct test for all the dengue cases and diligently work towards controlling the disease in the district.

Wezolo Medo, DVBD Consultant Wokha, highlighted the dengue scenario in the district showing uptrend in the last four years and gave awareness on Dengue transmission and preventive measures.

The NVBDCP Wokha in collaboration with the District Administration, Municipal Affairs, Council Chairman, and Village Health & Sanitation Committees conducted sanitation drives and cleared breeding grounds. 

In addition, the NVBDCP Wokha carried out community outreach having awareness at block levels and disseminated the message by carrying out poster campaigns, promotions of protective measures, usage of mosquito nets, long-sleeved clothing, and other personal protection strategies.
