Concerns raised over PMGSY culvert construction in Jalukie

JALUKIE, FEBRUARY 26 (MExN): With residents and commuters in Jalukie raising multiple concerns regarding the ongoing construction of a road culvert under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), the Jalukie Pumling Youth Organization (JPYO) conducted an on-site inspection to verify these claims.

According to a press release, during the inspection, it was found that instead of constructing a new culvert and installing fresh Hume pipes as per the approved Detailed Project Report (DPR), the contractor had opted to reuse old culverts and pipes, only covering the surface areas of the road.

This method of construction, according to JPYO, poses potential risks to public safety. The structural integrity of the reused culverts and pipes remains uncertain, and there is concern that over time, these aged materials may deteriorate further, leading to road collapses, water-logging, and accidents for daily commuters.

JPYO has called on the contractors and concerned authorities to immediately halt the use of old materials and ensure that new culverts and Hume pipes are installed as per the DPR specifications, in order to maintain the safety and integrity of rural infrastructure projects under PMGSY.
