Dimapur, March 6 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) flays the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland government “for ignoring the decisions and recommendations of the people for municipal and town councils election and manipulating the reservation options to suit its own vested interest.”
“Anger and complaints vented out by the people of various districts against the manipulative exercise nakedly exposed the DAN government’s anti-people policy, “the NPCC stated in a press release today. “It should explain to the people as to why the government had sought public opinion and decision in the first place. The NPCC cautions that the DAN government will be solely responsible for all untoward ramifications that may arise out of public anger.”
The Congress said the coalition’s “unlawful manipulative politics by abusing power” is nothing but “cowardice to face the civic body elections which would be a prelim to the 2013 state general elections.” At first the DAN government was “ecstatic of being the first and only state in the country to have passed the 33% women reservation bill” but “within no time it back-track from the hasty bill and explored all options to undo its own law because of which, the Naga women group had dragged the government to the court.”
Having lost the legal battle, the NPCC stated, the DAN government is now left with no other option than to announce the civic body election and implement the reservation policy lest it faces contempt of law charges. “The DAN government had illegally postponed the civic body elections for over four years under one or other pretext as it was afraid of losing the battle which would have reflected its credibility and moral right to continue,” the NPCC stated.
The opposition attacked the government further saying it has failed to dissolve the advisory boards even after announcing April “as the tentative poll date proved that it continues to take the law for granted.”
“It is mandatory for the government to dissolve the advisory boards forty five days ahead of announcing the poll date. Allowing the hand-picked NPF members to continue as advisory board members is another proof of manipulation and violation of law. The NPF should call it a day and muster the courage to face the people in a free and fair election instead of indulging in dirty politics,” the Congress asserted.
