DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 3 (MExN): Assembly Constituency Congress Committee of 4 Ghaspani-I A/C conducted a programme on Saturday felicitating Hukugha S. Sumi who is now the president-elect of District Youth Congress, Dimapur. He took over from outgoing president Longri Ao.
The programme held at Congress Bhawan, Dimapur had in attendance MLAs KL Chishi, Hewoto Awomi, District Congress Committee president Kughato S. Aye and other frontal bodies of the state Congress.
Addressing the gathering Chishi emphasised on the role of the party workers, particularly the youth wing in maintaining the grip of the congress as well as taking it forward as an influential political party in the state. Without undermining the role of other party workers, he said that the real force is the youth. Commenting on the claim that the party’s higher functionaries forget its young workers after the elections, he instead urged that such thought should not be allowed to germinate within the younger folds of the party and the youth leaders should lead. Inspite of the fact that the Congress is in the opposition bench in the assembly, he said that the objective of the party workers must be to work as one unit relentlessly, for a time will come when things will turn for the better. “Let us put our heads together and work for the welfare of the people.” While congratulating the DYC president elect on his new role, he expressed happiness that congress workers of the district are vibrant and cheerful.
MLA Awomi likened the occasion to that of administering oath on the incoming president. The aim of the new DYC president must be to take up from where the outgoing president has left and carry it forward. “Whatever the former president has done that is done, what he hasn’t finished, finish that one,” Awomi urged. Likening the congress to one big and cohesive family unit, he said that it is made up of various subordinate wings and branches with distinct yet crucial roles and responsibilities. The party uses its various units and members according to their own capacity without any bias and not simply as mere tools, he said.
President-elect Hukugha S. Sumi assured that his objective in his new role will be to work for the uplift of the DYC and ultimately the state congress. However, he said that it would not be possible without the support and cooperation of the party workers.
DCC, Dimapur president and state congress youth president also spoke on the occasion.
