Kiphire, July 4 (MExN): The District Congress Committee (DCC), Kiphire, has urged the Public Works Department (Roads and Buildings) to undertake immediate repair and maintenance of roads within Pungro town, citing their deteriorating condition and the hardships caused to commuters, particularly schoolchildren.
In a representation addressed to the Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B), Kiphire, the DCC said the roads in the town have developed numerous potholes and damaged stretches, causing inconvenience to both motorists and pedestrians.
It said the situation has worsened during the ongoing monsoon, with waterlogging, muddy conditions and damaged road surfaces making it difficult and unsafe for school-going children to travel to and from their schools.
The poor condition of the roads has also affected the movement of vehicles and emergency services, the committee said.
The DCC appealed to the department to take immediate steps to repair and maintain the roads in the interest of public convenience and safety, expressing hope for prompt action on the matter.
