Consultation to focus on safeguarding Article 371 (A)

Dimapur, October 1 (MExN): The State government today stated that the Government of India in its wisdom has granted special constitutional safeguard in the formation of Nagaland State by providing 371 (A) for which the people of Nagaland were happy. However, over the years, there were various instances of infringements over this safeguard in the process of administrations. 

The State government in a press release appended by Minister Home, Imkong L Imchen stated that it is felt imperative on the part of the Nagaland Legislators to re-affirm to this safeguard, and passed a unanimous resolution in the last Assembly re-iterating the right of the Naga people in respect of the land and its resources. 

Therefore, in the same issue, a general public meeting has been summoned on October 8, 2010 at Kohima comprising of all Nagaland legislators, tribal hohos and all other relevant civil societies at Zonal Council Hall so as to enable the Nagas to speak in one language as far as the land and its resources are concerned. 

Further, Imchen stated that, the Municipal and Town Council election are due, there is another constitutional aspects in regard to the Women Reservation in such elections. Therefore, the Naga people are requested to speak out their opinion in consonance with the provision of the Constitution. “The Government of Nagaland is of the opinion that a consensus opinion has to be put in place so that there is no divergent view on the policy in this vital aspect,” Imchen added. 

The Minister Home has therefore, appealed to all the Legislators especially of the present House, all political parties, all tribal hohos led by Naga Hoho, ENPO, Naga Mothers’ Association, ENWO, NSF, ENSF etc to come and present their valuable and consider opinion so as to bring a concretized resolution on the issues for the betterment of the Nagas.
