Tseminyu, June 4 (MExN): The Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection (LMCP), in collaboration with the Office of the Assistant Controller, Kohima, and the Tseminyu District Administration, organised a consumer awareness programme at the Christian School Auditorium, Tseminyu, on June 4.
Students and staff members of Baptist Higher Secondary School, Tseminyu, attended the programme, which focused on consumer rights, responsibilities and informed purchasing decisions.
The programme was chaired by Lucy, while Deputy Controller (LMCP) Shiloh Kath served as the resource person.
Addressing the gathering, Kath spoke on the theme of being a "Smart and Responsible Consumer". She explained that a smart consumer is one who is aware of his or her rights and responsibilities, makes informed decisions while purchasing goods and services, and remains vigilant against misleading advertisements and fraudulent offers.
She also stressed the importance of checking product labels and mandatory declarations, being conscious of quality and value for money, and asserting consumer rights through the provisions available under the Consumer Protection Act and related grievance redressal mechanisms.
The programme witnessed active participation from students, who raised several questions during the interaction session regarding the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. The resource person clarified the provisions of the Act and addressed the queries raised by participants.
The event concluded with words of appreciation from Dr Jochuhyulo Tsela on behalf of the administration of Christian School, Tseminyu.
