Continue to stand with Naga Hoho: Rengma and Zeliangrong Council, Assam urges

Dimapur, August 29 (MExN):The Zeliangrong people and the Rengma Naga living in Assam have appealed to all the tribes and apex body leaders to continue “to support and stand with the Naga Hoho regardless of artificial boundaries of Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal and Burma.”

“The Naga Hoho was formed by the Naga people on the foundation day of tribes Hoho on March 11 and 12, 1998 at Zunheboto with an objective to uphold solidarity, rebuild Naga Family and to facilitate the settlement of Naga Issues, to protect Naga System and tradition and to promote social culture and political heritage,” the council stated in a press release.

Since then, the Naga Hoho has been playing an important role in “resolving conflict situations amongst different factions of the Nagas” and has “initiated to unite the 39 Naga tribes irrespective of the artificial state boundaries,” it said.

The council also appreciated the role of Naga Hoho in the ongoing Indo Naga peace talks and the latter stand that the “settlement should be inclusive of all the Nagas inhabited areas.”  The council also highlighted that a Naga Hoho team visited to Haflong NC Hills during the difficult time of ethnic clash that broke out between Dimasas (Cacharis) and the Zeme Naga on April 18, 2009  and extended financial, material and moral assistance.

In this connection, the Zeliangrong Baudi then organised a rally for restoration of peace in NC Hills on June 29, 2009 at Dimapur town and it was fully supported by Naga Hoho and a Memorandum was sent to the Prime Minister of India to protect the life of minority Nagas in NC Hills, the council informed.  In 2014, when another clash flared up in Karbi Anglong, the Hoho once again intervened and took the vital role in restoring peace in the district, it added.

“We the Nagas of Assam believe and support that, the Naga Hoho is the only Apex Body which is actively working across all the Nagas inhabited areas irrespective of outside and within Nagaland,” the council stated.

“Hence, we would not support any kind of initiatives to form other Apex Organisation which will confuse the general public and function in Parallel with the existing Naga Hoho,” it added.

“Further, we assure that we will continue to support to the Naga Hoho to bring peace and final solution at the earliest,” stated the press release issued the council Convener, Pauheu Newme and General Secretary, G Thuangan.
