There is no wonder that there is a communication problem between US-based Dr. Senka Yaden and NNC Home Office in Nagaland. From the beginning people questioned how a foreign citizen in a foreign country can head and run the National Institute from a far country.
But we do not blame nor question Dr. Senka Yaden’s integrity or his loyalty towards the Naga nation. It was unfortunate that Dr. Yaden’s readiness to serve the cause of his people was taken undue advantage by some individuals with vested interests. In manipulating his election violation laid down procedures to serve their selfish calculations, a respected Naga far away from the local situation has been dragged into a controversy created by others.
The election of “Working President, on 29th March, 2011 NNC meeting” is another manipulation. How a person can be made to hold the “Working President and Advisor together by passing over and ignoring the incumbent vice-president Khiumukam Yimchunger and his executive members? His is highly ad hoc and procedurally unacceptable.
The present internal quarrelling among some of the leaders and members of the anti-Shillong accord NNC is not of policy matters but of money matters which is shameful.
To save the situation it may be suggested that Dr. Senka Yaden resign gracefully and the vice-president Khiumukam Yimchunger carry on till his term expires or the whole NNC is reorganized and reactivated on a broad base by the Naga people.
No one can dispute that the Naga National Council created by the people for the people cannot, must not, be treated recklessly by anyone to serve their short sighted tactics and schemes. The proper growth and development of the Naga people is inseparably tied to the health and grandeur of this institution that has grown out of our longings and our search for our identity and rightful place in the world.
