Cooch Behar Trophy Plate: Manipur defeat Nagaland in final

SOVIMA, DECEMBER 27 (MExN): Manipur clinched the Cooch Behar Trophy (Plate) title with a seven-wicket victory over Nagaland in the final at the Sovima Cricket Ground on December 26.

Nagaland, who won the toss and opted to bat, were dismissed for 129 in 46.2 overs in their first innings. Shyerinlo Thong top-scored with 41, while Manipur bowlers Rain (5/8) and Naesh (4/11) shared nine wickets to restrict the hosts.

In reply, Manipur posted 170 in 41.5 overs to take a 41-run first-innings lead. Lucky led the batting with a quick 55 off 50 balls, while Nagaland spinner Yashimeren Jamir produced a standout performance, claiming 9 for 47 in 17.5 overs.

Nagaland’s second innings ended at 115 in 54.5 overs, with Samir Ali (31) and Aloto Sumi (29) offering resistance. Naesh was again among the wickets, returning figures of 4 for 38 to leave Manipur a modest target.

Chasing 75 for victory, Manipur reached 77 for 3 in 19.4 overs. Alikarim (23 not out) and Sougaijam (20 not out) steered the team home after early wickets by Darsh Choudhary (2/27), sealing the Plate championship.
