Corrupt Culture

The reportage by the Nagaland Contractors & Suppliers Union (NCSU) and Nagaland Registered Class I Contractor Union (NREI-CU) highlighting action of the state Govt. for its random exorbitant rates allotted and also prompt payment made to the non-local contractors simply reveals the zenith point of corruption taking place in highest public office. Our politicians are fond of inaugural programmes for it is a matter of pride to expose such developmental activities without knowing the fact that there are cores of liabilities yet to be paid to the workers and most astounding facts is that we have such a selfish leaders having guts to allot even unbudgeted provisions to non-local firms for the cause of corruption and still pretends to be good Christians.

The ongoing agitation of (NCSU) against the state for not paying due works executed to the interest of people itself speaks for its inefficiency in policy making and financial management and the perception of our duly elected people’s representatives towards Naga economy and least ignorant of welfare state.

Considering the facts of corruption a hurdle for development and destruction to honest base society the state used to join with the rest of India in observing the vigilance awareness week beginning from 31st October every year. Several Govt. official use to pledge to work for eradication of corruption to all sphere of life to maintain integrity and transparency, nevertheless, corrupt system does not seems to have exits, but it is rather state of daily affairs as if the ethic of morality and fear of God is no longer a religion. Is it necessary that people’s leaders should provide only percentage deduction and commission receiving making the rich only richer, is it not wrong to put in record that many of our Govt. servants are equally corrupt for they are being a tool to comply the order of political boss and do all such kind of funds deductions and diversions although they should be running affairs of the state with all fairness and just.

Is it not wrong to say that all Govt. Civil works and supply orders are allotted for a cost through table tender leaving no ray of hope for people’s aspiration for more economy expansion as many just can’t afford to give bribe to the in charge in the form of commission where more gap between the rich and the poor is made +beyond repair, The Hon’ble Minister for Education & Higher Technical was not wrong when he has describe office of a Minister as an office of profit and certainly only few circle are doing such profit making business leaving no hope for public to lead better living condition and more so politician’s are not prompt to initiate disciplinary action against corruption cases for the entirely that would be digging their own grave.

Today, a Hon’ble Minister in the state gets as a salary of Rs. 13,000/- per month, Parliamentary Secretary and MLA gets a salary of Rs. 11,000/- and Rs. 10,000/- respectively. However, their personal assets acquired, developments taking place and luxurious private vehicles driven by them speaks beyond reasonable doubt the gravity of corrupt practice. Non local contractors are not voter bank but we have wrong person in the chair who have become like a commodity. People are frustrated to such exploitation to so called people’s leadership, yet no real change would come because honesty and fear of God are not criteria for issue of party tickets during election.

Corrupt system have become more indispensable due to advancement of gun culture invaded to the state in the name of Naga independent movement where no constitutional establishment have been spare and one decade peace talk have reduced to a mere creation of another state within union of India.

Today our politician are happy to have done big local ground, approach roads, construct govt. buildings, roads etc. but have failed to understand peoples desire to buy food, shelter and other basic for life in as much as the circulation of money does not revolve with the public but to a few businessmen. If this trend corrupt system should continue we are assure to ourselves that the native inhabitants will reduce to slavery to non-local traders within no time and therefore percentage deduction and commission receiving leadership must be put to an end by any means and voters can at least caste vote for a leader who do much for his makers than for a business legendary.
