“This is a glimpse of classrooms of GHSS, Longleng. This photo was taken on 1st July 2011. The school was established in 1972 and a new building is under construction at present. They say the school is a platform for showcasing possibilities to the young mind. So for almost 4 decades, what have the students studying in such an ambience, perceived of the world?
We are lacking a good role model to guide our children, to teach, to set a good example. Education is the solution not only to eradicate illiteracy but to change the society.
How can we sit back and drop the guns only on the politicians or bureaucrats when plenty associated with education (even teachers, even ordinary persons like you and me) have a hand in this corrupt system. Where shall we even begin to clean the system?
I have no agenda behind posting this photograph. I’ve wanted to share it on this blog for awhile. It is a hard knock life for some of us”— Rüchünino Rino.

Heads - Schools or cowsheds: Where did the funds go?
Kevis Vizhar: Shaa this is no better than a cowshed? What is the govt doing all these years? Damn, education is no joke. Why such neglect, this is one of the reason that constitute the ENPO's unimaginable demand for a separate state. Please publish this and knock the head of all the corrupt govt officials!
Rüchünino Rino: The govt. is sanctioning huge money for the backward areas but as we all know, by the time money is trickled down and reaches the school, it is so minuscule to do anything with it (Yan, I stress again, not only politicians but many people are involved). You know, I’ve been told that primary schools gets 1-2 months ‘holiday’ at the cost of just Rs 2000 at some places. But we are very good with the paper works so it all appears clean.
I just pray that everybody involved in education give a serious thought. I request if there are any teachers who takes the profession lightly, just another employment opportunity, to think twice. Our future is at stake.
Keneilhouzo Sekhose: Economic development can only take place when there is human resource development and I think this is one place where we have been going wrong. We have been too focussed on developing our roads, buildings etc and neglected our schools and colleges. It was really disheartening to hear that Mon district doesn't have enough seats in the colleges to accommodate all the students who passed their metric exam this year. What does the future holds for these students and the others who will be passing next year and the years to come. Our CM Rio in one of his speeches during his visit to a village said, "The best building in the village was the Church, the worst building in the entire village was the GOVT SCHOOL!!" I think this is not the case of only that particular village but almost all the villages and towns in Nagaland.
Andy Vee: Every little drop in the ocean plays a vital role. In the Nagaland of Today, in this present time that all of us have been granted, if everyone here raise their voice and puts in efforts in whatever way possible, in whatever way we know how to, the wheels of change will surely turn; little it may turn now but in time CHANGE WILL GAIN MOMENTUM.
And the younger generation will walk in self-earned branded shoes and clothes because of the efforts of the ones who walk tattered and barefoot now, they will eat the fruits of their endeavours and efforts because of the struggle of those who hunger now, they will walk in life with head held high because of those who now struggle to get by with only honest earnings. This is not wishful thinking! This is what YOU and I can choose to have/ to do. Brothers and Sisters DO WE DARE TO TAKE UP THE CHALLENGES THAT LIFE LAYS BEFORE US TODAY ? Or be defeatists and losers who just complain, whimper and fade?
Tails- Ministers and their money: Contrasting the above photograph
Ago Iralu: I’m left wondering when I’m stuck in traffic and a vehicle comes blaring through town with two vehicle escorts breaking all traffic rules. In short, “getting away” with it while I’ll be stuck in traffic for another three good hours. Where are they going is another question. Because if they are going to their jobs and doing it then the roads won’t be this bad, electricity won’t be a head-scratcher (especially when the kids are having their exams) and water would be supplied from the numerous streams and rivers all over Nagaland. Where is the result of all their rushing around town? Or are they rushing to reach their favourite paan shop for Tamul and cigarettes. Seriously what am I left to think? In the first they break all the traffic rules that were made by them so what’s left for anyone to think?
Give or take we are under a government and whatever its history we are the ones living it day to day. Its ordinary people who suffer, before we were a part of India or now even after. The government and its elves (excuse me, I’m a bit provoked) are there to maintain justice, develop this state or give to us, citizens, what we need. Our basic necessity. Crores and crores of rupees are being dropped on our heads. For our development and perhaps to keep us “at bay”. In Nagaland we do not have taxation, which other states do and therefore their money comes streaming into our hands. So, Where Is The Money? How come ministers and so and so forth, drive around with the latest cars, live in mansions and travel all around while we are left bereft of our basic needs? If someone earned his money honestly why would I have any say in it? But where is the money for our development and how come they seem to suddenly have a lot of money. Like out of thin air. Is it actually a relevant question or am I imagining things?
And if things are supposed to be like this, this- our fate. Then, since, theoretically that money is mine/ ours, their cars should be public property, their private residences should be public property. Isn’t that fairer? Isn’t that where we’re going to get our back without having to go to offices, complaining and calling the various departments for their incompetence? Hell, I should have an escort of five bodyguards and a vehicle just to buy my grocery. That way everyone is equal, no one is left out. If India is going to keep sending in money, fine, that’s quite Okay by us. But among ourselves, we should share it equally! Kuknalim!
