Court convicts man for culpable homicide at Tseminyu

Kohima, March 2 (MExN): The Court of Mezivolu T Therieh NJS, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Kohima, on Monday convicted Logvuseng Kent (52) under Section 304 Part I of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for the culpable homicide of Terilo Odyuo, also known as Lucy Kent, in 2023.

The court sentenced the convict to rigorous imprisonment for seven years and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000. In default of payment of the fine, Kent will undergo a further simple imprisonment for one year, stated an update received here. 

The case, registered at Tseminyu Police Station, was investigated by UBSI Chonkholen Doungel. During the trial, the prosecution examined 12 witnesses to establish the chain of events leading to the death of the victim.

Special Public Prosecutor L Sashimongla Jamir successfully established the guilt of the accused “beyond reasonable doubt.” After considering the oral, medical and documentary evidence, the Court found the accused guilty.

Following the verdict, Additional Public Prosecutor Abraham stated that the conviction was the result of coordinated efforts between the police, the prosecution team, and the witnesses. He also commended the investigating agency for their effective work in securing the conviction.
