Reaffirms stance against proxy teaching practices

The Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) has resolved to continue striving for unity among all Naga Political Groups (NPGs) aligning with its existing initiative for Naga unity.
In this regard, the CPO earnestly appealed all Naga political groups (NPGs) to uphold peace and refrain from any form of violence or bloodshed within the Chakhesang jurisdiction.
This was among the many resolutions adopted at the CPO’s 43rd general session cum Chakhesang Day held in Phek Town under the theme “Celebrating Legacy, Embracing Progress” on January 10.
It also resolved to promote quality population growth in Chakhesang villages and areas as a vital step toward holistic development and prosperity of the community.
The CPO will cooperate with the relevant Census enumeration authorities to ensure successful conduct of the next General Census with honesty, it stated.
On quality education and economic development, the CPO resolved to prioritise primary and quality education as a means to combat social disparity and foster holistic human resource development.
The resolution to take decisive measures to eliminate the practice of proxy teaching in Chakhesang towns and villages, thus, was adopted.
To this end, the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) and the respective Village Councils and Area Public Organisations were entrusted to take necessary actions.
The organisation also resolved to collaborate with CSU and Chakhesang Scholars Forum (CSF) to promote quality education.
It also decided to fully support any government or private agencies implementing infrastructure and economic development projects in the district and affirmrd that no individual, group, or village shall hinder or disrupt these initiatives.
The CPO also resolved to uphold the sanctity and cultural significance of Chakhesang traditional attire and to strictly prohibit any misuse or misappropriation of its designs.
Meanwhile, it resolved to “strictly prohibit” the practice of transgenders and same sex marriage within the Chakhesang community.
For sports development, the CPO resolved to encourage the various sports associations, institutions and concerned stakeholders to focus on the development of professional sports in Phek District, recognising the untapped talents and their potential to excel at both national and international levels.
Biodiversity conservation and climate action
On environmental issue, The CPO resolved to conserve and recharge groundwater sources, including springs and streams, and promote rainwater harvesting at households to ensure clean water access for all in the future.
The CPO called for efforts to establish animal corridors within Chakhesang jurisdiction, extending to the Myanmar Biodiversity Hotspot.
It urged villages and landowners to conserve the Zanübu, Kapamodzü, and other critical forests in Phek District, ensuring the preservation of these vital natural resources for future generations and regional ecological well-being.
It also resolved to promote the plantation of more indigenous fruits, plants, and trees suited to the local climate and topography and to this end, an annual tree plantation drive will be held from May to June 5, in conjunction with World Environment Day, involving the entire community.
Each village was task to take the necessary steps to organise, plant, and nurture the trees, ensuring their sustained care and promoting environmental stewardship.
The CPO also resolved to revise the complete ban on borewell construction in the district, allowing genuine projects to proceed after its prior approval. However, it called for strict rules and regulations to safeguard and conserve groundwater, ensuring that borewells are community-oriented rather than privately owned.
Promotion of piggery
The CPO resolved to promote and support local piggery farming by providing relevant training, aiming for self-sufficiency in pork production, reducing dependency on imports, and fostering sustainable economic growth.
Accordingly, the CPO decided to firmly uphold the existing ban on the import of pigs into Phek district, according to a resolution read out by Dr Chotisuh Sazo, Convenor Resolution Committee.
Further, it resolvec to uphold, compile and ensure the effective implementation of all resolutions passed during the 75th Anniversary Celebration of the Chakhesang Tribe in 2021 in Phek, as well asthose adopted in previous years.The CPO resolved to appreciate the current team of CPO office bearers, led by Vezühü Keyho, for their successful completion of a commendable tenure.
Notably, among their many achievements, they organised comprehensive Eye Check-up Camps in all Chakhesang villages, providing vital eye care services and benefiting over 7,000 individuals across 71 villages.
It also expressed appreciation to the Southern Angami, Mao, and Maram Khullen brothers for their amicable settlement of the Kezoltsa issue under the initiative of Tenyimia Public Organisation (TPO).
