Raymond Ronamai: Critical Analysis on Why NPF Failed and Why Congress Won in Manipur

If I post the above 'headline' as a thread, I'm sure many Nagas will start bombarding me why I mentioned the word "NPF Failed" because most of our people (including me) are short-tempered and just can't take criticisms even if it's going to help us. We neither listen to others nor spend a little time and ask ourselves 'Why we failed'. We are intoxicated in our own ideology and never think out of the box. For once, let's forget party-lines and ask this question to ourselves 'Why NPF failed'.

I say NPF failed for the simple reason that the party leaders said that they would win at least 8 seats but the number is just the half. Another reason is, only 4 NPF candidates won out of 10 seats (In Naga inhabited areas), sending out the message that the majority is not supporting the party. Many may say 'NO' but this is reality staring right on our face. 6 is more than 4.

NPF Helped Congress: Yes NPF helped the Congress win with absolute majority in Manipur, though indirectly. The fact that a political party from another state (Nagaland) entered Manipur sent an alarming message to the Meiteis that someone is invading their kitchen. This united the Meiteis, who were otherwise hell-bent against CM Ibobi Singh and his government. Even the valley underground groups tried to pull down the Congress but failed. Whether we like it or not, we are minority in political representation in the state. And the fact is there no dearth of political parties in the country. Even UNC's Independent Candidates won 6 seats in the last elections - it is reduced to just 4 with the entry of NPF. So, there is no harm asking if NPF is the only party that can save Nagas.

Underground’s Involvement: Our society has changed. People are tired of violence and our Christian values discourages even thinking ill of another person, forget about bloodshed. So, when the insurgents indulged in violent tactics including shooting, kidnapping and beating up civilians, who supported the Congress, the general public was not happy. The outcome of this year's elections is there for all to see.

Nagas are not ignorant anymore. Today's youngsters are exposed to global politics. The scenario will be very different 5 years from now with the young generation taking up the leadership. If the Social Workers resort to violence in the next elections, it can lead to mass revolution like in the present Arab countries because the educated Naga youngsters may not give in to violent tactics easily.

Time to ask ourselves "Why we failed".

Another East Coast – West Coast family gathering

Vikeyeno Zao: In Seven Sisters Post Mr. Toshi Wongton, General Secretary, ENPO said “We don't have roads, hospitals, schools, drinking water facility, electricity and housing facilities. We don't get assistance from any centrally sponsored schemes like NHRM and MRNEGA.” I was surprise to read this because I know that the Ministry of Rural Development has initiated various centrally sponsored developmental schemes in vast rural areas of the country. The SIRD acts as a link between the Central Government and the State Government.

Under RGGVY schemes for free electrification, under IAY free houses, under NRDWP providing safe and free drinking water. Total Sanitation Programme - free comodes are distributed for free to all BPL houses, Assistance programmes usually implemented by social welfare Deptt, MRNEGA hundred days employment and so on. My question is, if Mr.Toshi Wongton’s statement is true, is it a shame for the Nagaland Government or Naga people?

Bazo Kire: I hope I do not hurt the sentiment of my eastern brethren when I say that their own people should lead from the front. Professionals from that area must go back and serve their people. They will have positive influence on the society.  Anyone settled in Kohima/Dimapur should visit their village at least twice in a year with their whole family, they should build their houses.  Those educated and employed should encourage the students to complete their schooling and have ambitions and alternatives. I know some young dynamic youths have already started doing that. Those who do not live or contribute to the frontiers should only encourage and give constructive criticism and not be idealist and criticize from their comfort zone.

Bangmoi Yanlem: If our respective MLA's are so corrupted, and our advanced brethrens should have no problem, if their conscience is really clear! Nobody is taking away anything away from you. @ENPO- let’s not blame the advanced masses, just stick to your goal. But firstly lets, chunk out our rotten tomatoes!

Atsü Jangkhuger Yim: Being an eastern I don’t blame any of my advance tribe brothers n sisters for our misfortune or under development .

And to our advance brothers and sisters who think our easterns MLA’s and Ministers are rich, I agree with you. They are incredibly rich but can you tell me any of your minister or MLA who is poorer than ours please I would be very glad to know it.
And yeah how many minster do u think we have in our area of 6 tribes having almost half the population of Nagaland. Please take a trouble to compare it.

And the reason why we don’t have enough minister as stated by one of the minster from Kohima is we don’t have any experience candidate for the post and so if we want to have we must select the particular candidate again and again until they become experienced enough to become a minister. This statement is clearly true because I was there when this statement was made and many of the Yimchunger who attended the 2011 YAA conference in Chessore village will be aware of it.

Yanpvuo Kikon: All the East Coast - West Coast blame game won’t solve any problem. Better to find a solution and work on it then playing a never ending tennis match!! I remember Menuolhoulie Kire and myself on our way back from Mon to Longleng via the Agri-Link road shouting at the top of our voices "Please please give this land a separate statehood!" Why?? I travelled on a mini truck from Kohima to Mon and back. Along with Menuo on our way back, the roads were terrible! Our internal organs were misplaced because of the super bumpy ride(The empty truck added to our misery!!). Now we are all lounging in the comforts of our homes and playing the blame game. Unless you actually go there and see it with your own eyes, I think we should refrain from passing judgments. It is obvious that the elected representatives of the region has done little (or actually nothing) and failed to utilize the power given to them which could have transformed their society. Same goes with our politicians. They are old and frail, their TIME IS OVER. It is NOW for you and me to decide our future. And I say, look back and see what a mess our older generation has made, let’s do our bit by not BLAMING each other but PUTTING our minds together to build a better future where we can be at par with the rest of the country and the world!
