Current movement is about “people’s rights”

The Acting President of Ao Senden, C. Angang Jamir while addressing the volunteers reminded that the current movement is about “people’s rights” and that there is no distinction between men and women. He added that “this problem” cropped up because the government “did not understand that people’s voice is supreme in a democracy.” He added that “precious lives have been lost” because of the “dictatorial government.”

Jamir stated that this was the first time that all the Naga people of Nagaland state in its history of more than 50 years of statehood had come out together in one platform, united for a cause. He challenged the people to remain steadfast, saying, “Today, God has given us, the people, the opportunity to renew Nagaland. God has chosen us, the people, to reform the land.” He declared that “a battle has been fought but the war continues” and added that “the work” would begin once the chief minister TR Zeliang steps down and a new government is put in office. For this, he challenged “every single upright citizen” to be ready for any eventuality.

Representatives of Eastern Naga People’s Union Mokokchung, Sumi Hoho Mokokchung and Lotha Hoho Mokokchung, as well as the Land Owner Villages Forum, MTLT and OKM also addressed the gathering.

Meanwhile, Ao Senden JCC has thanked the representatives from Eastern Nagaland Women’s Union Mokokchung, Sumi Women’s Union Mokokchung and the Lotha Women’s Union Mokokchung as well as the womenfolk from all 18 wards under Mokokchung municipality who turned up to volunteer today in imposing the bandh.

While expressing gratitude to the Eastern Naga People’s Union Mokokchung, Sumi Hoho Mokokchung and Lotha Hoho Mokokchung for their support, he also thanked the frontal student organizations under AKM, the MTLT, the elders of the three land owner villages, AWUM and all well wishers for their support since day one, and hoped that they would continue to extend their cooperation in the future too.
