CVA & MH10 set for thrilling semifinal showdown at 2nd Imonungba Memorial Trophy

Longsa Sporting Club to face Blind Spiker in other SF

Changtongya, November 14 (MExN): Day-II of the 2nd Imonungba Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy ended on November 14, with traditional rivals Changtongya Volleyball Association (CVA) and MH-10 Kohima poised for a thrilling semifinal encounter on Friday.

Earlier in the day, CVA bounced back from a first-match defeat on Wednesday to secure two wins, including a five-set thriller against United Changki. However, they finished second in Pool A after Longsa Sporting Club (LSC) topped the group.

Meanwhile, MH-10 extended their unbeaten run on Thursday to lead Pool B, setting up a match against CVA, the second-placed team from Pool A. 

LSC will meet Blind Spiker, the second-placed team from Pool B, in the other semifinal.

A total of eight teams are participating in the tournament: CVA, United Changki, Evergreen Club (Ungma - Blue), and Longsa Sporting Club in Pool A; and Evergreen Club (Ungma - Green), MH-10, Blind Spiker, and CVA Junior in Pool B.

Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) S Supongmeren Jamir on November 13 at Public Ground, Changtongya Town.

The winner of the championship will receive a cash prize of Rs 90,000 along with a running trophy and a citation. The 1st Runner-up will receive Rs 50,000, while the losing semi-finalists will each be awarded Rs 15,000.

In addition to the team awards, there are individual prizes of Rs 5,000 for Best Spiker, Best Setter, Best Libero, and Player of the Tournament.

The semifinal and final matches are scheduled for November 15.
