The D-Block Council-cum-Multipurpose Building was dedicated on March 14 by former minister Dr Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire in the presence of Thenusou Sekhose, councillor of Kohima Municipal Council, and Kevi Vizo, chairman of D-Block Council, Kohima.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kire called upon the community to make the best use of the facility for the benefit of the people.
“I want this facility to be utilised in the right way,” he said, expressing optimism that the building would become a place of blessings and bring a positive impact on community welfare and all-round development.
Addressing the gathering, Sekhose described the occasion as an important milestone for the D-Block ward.
“This building is not just a physical structure; it represents our collective commitment to strengthen community participation and improve local governance,” she said.
She added that the facility would enable residents to come together for public discourse, youth activities and social gatherings, and organise programmes aimed at promoting the welfare and development of the community.
Sekhose thanked the Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL) for supporting and constructing the facility, noting that the Smart City initiative aims to improve urban infrastructure and uplift the living standards of the community.
She also acknowledged Dr Kire for initiating the project during his tenure as Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs.
“Your leadership, vision and commitment to the development of our city have played a significant role in making this project possible,” she said.
Sekhose further expressed gratitude to the Kohima Municipal Council, council leaders, community leaders, youth and residents of D-Block for their collective efforts in bringing the project to completion. She urged the community to take responsibility for actively utilising the facility to promote unity, cooperation and community development.
Speaking on the occasion, Vizo said the completion of the building fulfilled a long-felt desire of the community. Thanking the government and all those involved in the project, he said the facility would be used for social gatherings, youth and church activities, birthday programmes and other community events.
Ruokuovilhou Belho, Head GB, and Keduovilie Linyii, former chairman, also delivered short speeches during the programme.
The programme was chaired by Neisavotuo Whuorie, vice-president of D-Block Council, while the vote of thanks was proposed by James Yhome, media and information secretary.
Yhome thanked all those involved in the project, including K Theunuo, CEO of Kohima Smart City Development Limited, contractor Neithongulie Sote and KC Angami, for their constant support to the residents of D-Block ward.
Earlier, Priya, Associate Pastor of BRC Khariizou, invoked God’s blessings, while Samina Belho and Sedevinuo Yhome presented special numbers.
