Mokokchung, April 26 (MExN): The State Congress party today alleged that the DAN Government is blackmailing government employees by issuing ‘show cause notice’ to government employees. NPCC president SI Jamir at a press conference held here today at the Tourist Lodge, Mokokchung disclosed that the DAN Government has issued ‘show cause’ notice to three government employees. One is said to be a government employee posted at Mon district whose wife is a Congress Mahila member working for Dr SC Jamir for this by-election. The other two others are said to be security personnel attached with Jamir for ‘official duty’.
Terming is as unbecoming of a responsible government and political party; the Congress president said that the DAN Government is “assassinating democracy”.
Another Congress leader commented that ‘this shows how they are making use of the state machinery and bureaucracy’.
The AICC Nagaland In-charge, Luizinho Faleiro, who was also present at the press conference, expressed his wish to let this election be a free and fair one, and asked the DAN Government not to indulge in blackmailing government for cheap political gains.
‘DAN Govt lackluster, no foresight’
The AICC Nagaland In-charge, Luizinho Faleiro today said that the present DAN Government is lackluster having no foresight and no vision.
Addressing media persons at Tourist Lodge Mokochung here today in the presence of prominent Congress leaders and MLAs, Faleiro alleged that the state coffers are empty and there is total bankruptcy in the state. Bankruptcy, he said, not only in the financial aspect but bankrupt on all fronts. Saying that the UPA Government at the Centre has been generous enough to grant Rs 1600 crores as Special Plan Assistance to the Nagaland government in the year 2010-11, which no other northeastern states has received.
But Faleiro lamented that he does not see any infrastructural development in the state. He alleged that the flagship programme initiated by the UPA government has not been able to reach the common people in the state. He alleged that going by the CAG Report, there is total mismanagement and corruption in the implementation of central schemes like SSA and MGNREGA in the state.
“I feel there is total mismanagement and rampant corruption which is responsible for the sorry state of affairs…Congress as a responsible opposition, it is our duty to bring this to the notice of the people,” said Faleiro.
On being asked about possible action against the alleged ‘corruption and mismanagement’, Faleiro said that the Congress will take measures to bring such corruption to the notice of the people through non-violent activities like dharnas, and even bring it to the notice at the national level so that ‘disciplinary action’ can be taken accordingly.
Talking about the Congress party, Faleiro said that it is only the Congress party which can preserve and protect the rich cultural heritage of the Nagas since it was the Congress which enacted the Article 371 (A) especially meant for the Naga people. Besides he also claimed that it is only the Congress party which can bring peace in the prosperity in Nagaland.
On Dr SC Jamir’s candidature, Faleiro said that the Congress party after taking stock of the situation in the state, has decided to put before the people ‘a very senior, time-tested and experienced son of the Nagaland’ Dr Jamir, who in his ‘magnanimity, simplicity ad humility’ accepted to be the candidate for the coming by-election. However, he said that the coming election meant nothing to the Congress party, but it is just a means to send a message to the people that the Congress party is very much interested in the state of affairs and the progress of the people.
Congress MLA and CLP leader Tokheho Yepthomi, Congress MLAs I Imkong, SI Jamir, C Apok Jamir and former Finance Minister K Therie and others were present at today’s press conference.

NSGEWA to support SC Jamir
Dimapur, April 26 (MExN): Still-hurt Nagaland Senior Government Employes Welfare Association (NSGEWA) have decided to support SC Jamir in the Mokokchung by-polls knowing well that the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland Government have trampled the rights and futures of retired government employees.
The ballot paper is the only weapon to counter the humiliation, the association said today. “Seeing such biased and indifferent attitude of the DAN Govt against us, we felt humiliated. Hence, we do not find any better weapon to avenge our humiliation than the ballot paper” the association said. “Therefore, the association in its general meeting has unanimously decided to support Dr. SC Jamir the Congress I candidate in the ingoing Bye election to the 26th Aonglenden constituency.
Accordingly, NSGEWA central office bearers including office bearers of Wokha unit called on Dr SC Jamir on the 19th of April 2011 in his residence in Mokokchung to express support and solidarity with him. “We once again direct all our affected members particularly in Mokokchung district to effectively work for the success of Dr SC Jamir, the association said. The retired employees of the state government continue to air its angst and frustration at the treatment of retired government employees by the Government of Nagaland. The retired employees are the ‘worst victim’ of the Nagaland Retirement Public Employment 2nd Amendment Act 2009, the association stated in a note today.
“The DAN government led by Neiphuo Rio has uniterally passed the new retirement act 2009 under the guise of solving the unemployment problem in the state which in reality is a total fallacy.
Due to the implementaton of the NRPE 2nd ammendment 2009, nearly 3800 senior government employees were forced to retire around the same time i.e 31.10.09 without any preparation nor any alternative arrangement from the government,” stated the press cell of the association.
When the NSGEWA took the matter to the court for repeal of the impugned act, the DAN government branded the association as “antagonized the govt” and adopted a “pumitive principle” against the NSGEWA members. With this principle in view, the association said, the DAN government completely deprived the retired personnel of the 6th ROP benefits despite being in service when the 6th ROP took effect (01-06-08).
