Touching upon the statehood issue, the chief minister said that eastern Nagas demanding statehood will open another Pandora box because two fold of the Nagas are living in India spread over four states and one fold of the Nagas are living in Myanmar. “If the Government of India gives us more state we will take it but for misunderstanding within us we will not accept,” the chief minister said.
Minister for Planning and Co-ordination TR Zeliang who also spoke on the occasion said, “Demand of separate state hood people will pull you back from developmental activities.” He said that the present government is giving special focus to the backward region and border areas and asked the people to get the blessing of this instead of demanding for statehood.
Parliamentary Secretary CAWD, T.Torechu express gratitude to the chief minister for giving special attention to the people of the region; adding that “people who said we will break away from Nagas are the people who are lazy and uneducated… Nagas are one and only one.”
