DC Mon urges villagers to take up measures to avoid fire incidents

Mon, December 23 (DIPR): The Deputy Commissioner, Mon Angau I Thou visited Yakshu village and inspected the spot destroyed by fire incident on December 20. She donated 33 bags of rice to all the household victims and 19 blankets to those household gutted down to ashes. She also hold public meeting and interacted with the villagers about the causes of fire and to take up measures to prevent such disaster in the future. Speaking at the meeting Angau I Thou said that the outbreak of the fire was manmade incident due to carelessness of the people because fire got ignited from a burning candle placed near a place where kerosene oil is kept. She also pointed out that the effort of the people to stop the blazing fire could not be prevented from spreading, because houses were built very close connected to each other.
Therefore, she urged upon the people to take a strong resolution to keep enough space between the houses while constructing their houses and make the village 100% CGI Sheet roofing by judiciously utilizing the schemes under Rural Development programme. For which she called upon the youths to mobilize and sensitize the people to change their mindset. Finding out that almost all the houses were temporarily constructed within a period of two days, the DC also lauded the spirit of unity and solidarity of the people to continue in the days to come. Learning from the public that there is scarcity of water supply in the village, the DC assured to assist the village for construction of reservoir at the source under 13th Finance Commission.  15 pucca houses, 4 thatch houses, a Church office, a morung, 2 granaries and 5 light post with wire were burned down to ashes besides livestock, while 10 houses were damaged by the people to stop the spreading inferno. It may be mentioned that same fire incident took placed in 2006 at Yakshu village.
