NIULAND, DECEMBER 2 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner, Niuland has prohibited all mining activities of sand, sand gravel, boulder etc in and around the stretch of Ato Ghoki over Zubza River under Niuland District. In an order today, the Niulad DC informed that excess of such activities is severely affecting the ecological balance leading to degradation of rivers, soil erosion, depression of water level, scarcity of water and flood in the area. “It is not only illegal but is also severely affecting the stability and foundation of the Zubza bridge due to unabated mining which is the only lifeline connecting the District/District HQ to the rest of the State,” the order said. “Any defaulter will be liable for a fine of Rs10,000 along with necessary action under the relevant section of law,” the order cautioned.
