God created man in his own image. He created him to be fruitful and multiply. (Gen 1:27-28). In each human being God has put the seed or potential to become more and more like Him. He has not set any limit to our human capacity to grow, multiply and reach great heights.
To be able to grow fully we must first fear God and obey Him and seek His kingdom (Prov. 9:10, Matth. 6:33). Having done so, it is essential to work hard to develop the God-given potential in us. God is hard working and He works non-stop (John 5:17). Hence His handiworks are perfect and marvellous.
By law of nature, much effort is required to produce great things. The greater the effort, the better the product. It is God’s decree that we must sweat and eat (Gen 3:19). In the scripture we also find that one of the sins of Sodom was idleness (Ezek. 16:49). Jesus taught a parable about three workers assigned by the master with different talents. Two of the workers worked hard, multiplied and satisfied the master. But the third worker never worked to multiply due to laziness. The master cursed him saying, “Wicked and lazy servant.”(Matth. 25:26). Laziness amounts to wickedness in the sight of God. Not working hard to multiply the God-given potential is therefore sinful. The scripture also commands lazy people to learn from the ants the wise way of working hard during good days so as not to suffer in hard days (Prov. 6:6-11).
The commonest thing to happen is to be talented but not successful. The high potential to succeed is given by God but it does not yield fruit for lack of effort. Thomas Alva Edison said, “If we all did the things we are capable of doing we would literally astound ourselves.”
Curiosity is the engine of knowledge and achievement. Albert Einstein said, “I have no special talents but I am passionately curious.” Einstein thus became a genius because of his curiosity to learn and learn. What an example for students to emulate. Do you know that Einstein failed in Maths in High School. Shakespeare was weak in English in High Schooldays. You may think you are weak and incapable to reach the top. No, that is a deception my dear students. You are better than you think or know about yourself. Remember you are a genius. To actualize the genius in you, you must read a lot, learn everything you can, have patience to sit on your study table for long hours. Have self-control to limit the use of mobile or computer. Say no to vices and friends whose company will be detrimental to your studies. As God has created you with high potentials you can learn, grow and reach the top ladder of life. Just set a goal, focus and be passionate about achieving that goal. You will be amazed to discover one day that you have reached the top. So fear God and work hard dear students.
Wishing you a grand success.
