Dimapur, April 11 (MExN): Chairman of the Delimitation Commission of India has assured of a visit to Nagaland. The Joint Action Committee of tribal Hohos on delimitation was assured by Justice Kuldip Singh to visit the state when the Hohos camping in Delhi met him on April 9.
The JAC also submitted a memorandum expressing full support towards full implementation of the Delimitation Act 2002. The JAC impressed upon the chairman to issue directives to the government of Nagaland to carry out the delimitation exercise. MLAs ET Ezung and Vatsu Meru representing 11 MLAs from Wokha, Peren, Longleng and Kiphire districts and Tseminyu sub-division and secretary of the JAC Idailung Thou reiterated that the alternative proposals submitted by the committee is a proposal worked out in the best interest of the Nagas without any bias or prejudice.
The delegation strongly rejected the latest draft working paper on delimitation in Nagaland. “It only reflects minor readjustments of population and distribution of villages within districts without affecting equitable distribution of assembly seats and entitlement (of the same) …in the process of carving out constituencies to suit the immediate interest of some vested sitting members including the member of Delimitation Commission who is also aspiring candidate fro the forthcoming Assembly elections” the JAC stated. This is nothing but gross violation of the provisions of the Act and an outright attempt to derail the delimitation process thus denying the people the right to proportionate equal representation, the JAC added.
