Dimapur June 13 (MExN): The Sumi Hoho Seyochung Area (SUSA), while extending its support to the representation submitted by the Kiphire District Sumi Hoho regarding delimitation/re-adjustment of constituencies under Kiphire district, has warned that any move for the mentioned exercise might lead to tension between the communities in the stated area.
It may be mentioned that the SUSA held a general meeting on May 20 at Lukhami Village and unanimously resolved to submit a representation to the Nagaland Chief Minister in support if the Kiphire Sumi Hoho’s representation.
According to the SUSA’s representation to the CM, the Seyochung area consists of Shothumi ‘A’, Shothumi ‘B’, Phisami, Lukhami, Yangzitong and the Sumi community Seyochung town.
As such the SUSA reminded that the proposal that was submitted by the district administration in 2004 regarding the delimitation (adjustment) of constituencies under Kiphire district was resisted totally by the mentioned areas.
“It is learnt that proposal was made to include the village namely Shothumi ‘A’, Shothumi ‘B’ Phisami and Lukhami from Sitimi Seyochung constituency to Kiphire. However, if this move is made, then there will be repercussions that could lead to untoward incidents” the SUSA cautioned in a statement issued by Chairman LH Yepthomi.
It maintained that the delimitation if applied should be made with the consensus of the people residing in Kiphire district since it is a compact area “without any specific demarcation among the co-existing tribes.”
The SUSA also informed that the aforementioned villages are under Seyochung civil administration and Sitimi block. The distance from these villages to Kiphire either via Sitimi or via Kichang is about 80 to 105 kilometers and 35 to 80 kilometers respectively, whereas the distance from these villages to Seyochung is “barely 3-14 km”.
The SUSA also maintained that the people of these villages co-exist with those of Seyochung constituency than “Kiphire Sardar in terms of topography, language and social or for that matter, demography”.
“In the light of the above specified facts, the Sumi Hoho Seyochung Area requests your intervention at the earliest before any steps to create tension in the area between the different communities living in the vicinity is created” the SUSA asserted beforehand.
