Kohima, September 1 (MExN): The Chakhesang Public Organisation, Sumi Hoho, Pochury Hoho and United Sangtam Likhüm Pümji have jointly submitted a representation to the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima seeking urgent repair of the damaged stretch of National Highway 29 from Kohima to Chakhabama.
In their letter, the bodies said they were making the appeal “on behalf of the commuters and the general public” and drew attention to the “deplorable condition” of the road. They stated that this section of NH-29, which serves as a lifeline connecting the districts of Phek, Zunheboto, Kiphire and surrounding areas, has become “virtually impassable.”
According to the representation, the situation has arisen due to “the continued negligence of the construction companies responsible for its maintenance, even though the project is still within its maintenance period.” The bodies argued that the failure to repair and maintain the road “not only poses a serious threat to the safety of commuters but also disrupts emergency services, affects local businesses, and severely hampers the economic well-being of the region.”
“The current condition of the road warrants immediate intervention,” the letter stated. It further appealed to the office of the Deputy Commissioner to “direct the concerned construction companies to undertake immediate repair and restoration work on the said stretch of NH-29.”
