Dept of AH&VS informs on buffalo mortalities in Phek 

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 24 (MExN): The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science has informed that there have been confirmed cases of buffaloes succumbing to Haemorrhagic Septicaemia (HS) at Kangjan Village under Meluri Sub-division, Phek District. In a press release issued through the DIPR, the department said that following reports of buffalo mortalities laboratory tests were conducted to specify the etiology of the disease from ELISA laboratory, Kohima. It was confirmed that the etiology of the disease was a Gram negative, Coccobacilli, Bipolar organism called Pasteurellamultocida. Therefore, livestock owners have been requested to be vigilant and co-ordinate with the district office in the event of mortalities. Further, the CVOs have been asked to initiate control and containment plan in co-ordination with Directorate office and ELISA Laboratory as sensitivity test has also been performed on the isolate.
