Deputy CM Patton condemns racial discrimination against NE people

DIMAPUR, MARCH 9 (MExN): Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton today stated that he is “appalled and disturbed by the repeated instances of racial discrimination against people from Northeast India.”

“When will we learn to see each other as Indians first?” the Deputy CM questioned, and condemned the “racial discrimination and alleged assault” against two Northeast residents near the Saket District Court Complex in New Delhi on March 8. “Such acts of prejudice and bias are not only hurtful but also go against the values of unity and inclusivity that our country stands for,” he stated.

Patton termed it “disheartening” to see individuals being judged or mistreated based on their appearance, ethnicity or place of origin.

“Let us come together to promote understanding, empathy and respect for all cultures and communities. Every Indian deserves to be treated with dignity, regardless of their background. We must celebrate our diversity and recognize the strength it brings to our nation and promote inclusivity,” he stated.

Patton urged everyone to stand against racism and promote inclusivity in all aspects of life. “Let's build a society where everyone feels valued, respected and safe.  Racism and violence are completely unacceptable and deserve strict legal consequences,” he added.
