Mokokchung, April 14 (MExN): An initiative to strengthen the registration of births and deaths through digital systems at the grassroots level kicked off in Tuensang with first phase of an IT equipment distribution programme for district on April 14.
Addressing the event, Secretary, Economics & Statistics and Chief Registrar of Births & Deaths, Nagaland, Akunu S Meyase underscored the importance of birth and death registration not only as proof of identity but also as a critical source of population data for planning and implementation of government schemes.
She informed that, in the first phase, 15 villages have been covered, with IT equipment provided to registrars to facilitate enrolment and issuance of birth and death certificates at the village level.
Highlighting the transition to online systems, Meyase noted that manual certificates are being replaced by digital certification and urged stakeholders to utilise the equipment effectively for community benefit.
Deputy Commissioner Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, and Director & Additional Chief Registrar of Births and Deaths, Nagaland, Neidilhou Keditsu, also delivered short addresses at the event held at held at District Economics & Statistics Office, Tuensang.
The programme was chaired by P Sokum, District Economics & Statistics Officer (DESO) and District Registrar of Births and Deaths, Tuensang, informed the State DIPR.
